DISTRICT 5440 GOVERNOR AWARDS
Each District Governor may present awards to further his and the district’s goals each year. These awards are granted at the discretion of the District Governor and may be included in his budget at the district expense:
RI President Wilf Wilkinson (Canada) 2007-08 GOALS ROTARY INTERNATIONAL · Presidential Citation achievement by each club (see brochure for requirements) · Each Club President to bring 1 new member into Rotary · Continued focus on the following areas: o Water – Dave Stewart (dave.stewart@stewartenv.com) o Literacy – Susan Peterson (Peterson@frii.com) o Health & Hunger – Karen Bonomo (karenbonomo75@msn.com) o Family of Rotary – Judy TeSelle (wunlimited1001@qwest.net) o Youth Service – Chuck Rutenberg (crutengerg@johnxonbruen.com) DISTRICT · Presidential Citation achieved by clubs · Governor’s Citation achieved by clubs o Family of Rotary – Clubs are to do 1 activity (meeting, social event, project, etc.) to which they invite (and have attend) spouses/partners, children, widows/widowers of former members, TRF alumni, YE and RYLA participants. A picture of the event is to be attached to the application. · The Rotary Foundation Goal will be met by clubs · Membership – Club Presidents will bring 1 new member into Rotary Attendance of Club Presidents and Club Members at District meetings (District Assembly/Leadership Training; District Mid Year Assembly; District Conference)

For: Outstanding Rotarian during the years as determined by the District Governor.

These awards were initiated by the district and the costs of presenting them are borne by the district.

For: Largest Percentage of Growth
Type: Traveling trophy donated by PDG Ted Almquist to the best overall club, plus three new banners each year forth the membership categories of 1 to 35, 36 to 70 and over 71.
History: This stared when we were District 168. In 1971-72, when Ted was District Governor, a Wyoming club gave him a distinctive piece of art. In 1981, Moon Cunningham suggested it become a traveling trophy to be known as the Ted Amlquist Award for the club with the largest percentage gain in membership.

Rules: Largest percentage of club growth from July through the month prior to the district conference as determined by the District Governor.
Type: New banners each year. Three new banners each year for the membership categories 1 to 35, 36 to 70 and over 71.
History: One of the oldest awards in the District. As with the Club Growth award we do hot have much information regarding it.

Rules: Club with the best average attendance for July through the month preceding the District Conference as determined by the District Governor..
Type: Permanent trophy
Presented by: District Governor or representative.
Rules: The award winner is determined by each club’s per capita contribution reported by Rotary International in its last report for the year issued prior to the District Conference.
For: Best conference attendance.
Type: Banner
History: This award was established in 1962 by PDG John P. Illsley.
Rules: This award is determined by the percentage of clubs membership at the time of the District Conference attending the conference. Neither the host club(s), nor the host city club(s) (if different from the host club) is eligible for this award.

District 5440 Cecil Staver Award
Type: Traveling Rotary Bell annually: plus two honorable mention awards
History: Originally started after World War II by Ed Bemis, Past President of the Littleton Rotary Club when we were part of District 545, this award is being continued by District 5440 in recognition of the club with the best bulletin.

Rules:
1. The committee will be composed of the most recent Editarian winner (Chairman) and the winning Editarians from the two preceding years as determined by the District Governor. 2. The First place award winner shall be ineligible to compete for three years. Honorable mentions winners continue to be eligible for the primary award and subsequent honorable mentions. 3. To be eligible for the award, each club publishing a bulletin Traveling must, during the Rotary year beginning in July, send a copy of its bulletin to the District Governor and District Newsletter Editor at least once each quarter. 4. The committee shall meet no later than 30 days nor earlier than 45 days prior to District Conference to judge club bulletins. 5. Bulletins shall be judged according to the following criteria: Club News, including future and past club programs, members activities, make-ups at other clubs, committee meetings, board meetings, election of new members, club assemblies, special actions, birthdays, biographies, etc. Rotary Promotion, including Rotary education, excerpts or comments from The Rotarian, Rotary development, or anything furthering the principles and ideals of Rotary. Originality, including both the activities emanating from and within the club itself, and the presentation of those activities in the bulletin. Mechanical Excellence. Well printed or reproduced bulletins are more likely to be read than those poorly done. Despite the method of production, mechanical excellence should be a goal of each Editarian. No particular method, however, shall have any advantage over any other. Criteria: Club news 50% Rotary Promotion 30% Originality 10% Mechanical Excellence 10%
District 5440 Sam Portner “Hang-on-and-row-like-hell” Award
Type: Traveling and permanent trophies.
History: Instituted by PDG Sam Portner of Fort Collins to recognize the club making the greatest strides in overcoming its difficulties.
