The Rotary International District 5440
Simplified Grants Program

The Simplified Grants Program was adopted by the Rotary Foundation Trustees to provide an opportunity for Rotarians to use District Designated Funds (DDF) to undertake projects in their own communities or in other regions or countries. DSG will provide funding for community or international service projects that involve the active, personal participation of Rotarians. The projects serve as a means of enhancing the community and improving the lives of the less fortunate.

 Application Process

Applications will be accepted from 1 July to 30 June each Rotary year. Applications will be considered as received by the District Simplified Grants Committee. Completed applications shall be forwarded to:

            District 5440 Simplified Grants Committee

            c/o John Henley

            1381 Kelly Drive

            Casper, Wyoming 82609

Questions regarding the applications may be directed to:

            John Henley, Chairman

            DSG Committee

            Tel. #(307) 234-3964 (H) or (307)-235-6613 (W)

Project Criteria

Requests for DSG awards must meet the following criteria:

Projects must respect the wishes of the receiving community and those groups within the community which will be beneficiaries of the project. If the project is in a foreign country, contact must be made with a local Rotary Club in the recipient country, unless no such Club exists in that community or in an adjacent area. In the latter instance, involvement of a respected NGO (Non-Governmental Organization) which is acquainted with and active in the area and which will assist in its implementation will suffice.

Grants require the direct involvement of Rotarians to

§                  Assess community needs and develop a project plan

§                  Establish a committee of three Rotarians to oversee the expenditure of funds

§                  Oversee grant funds

§                  Implement projects

§                  Provide evidence of community involvement and ownership

§                  Organize meetings with local service providers, local officials, and recipients

§                  Promote the project and Rotary’s involvement in the local media

Grant funds cannot be used for:

§               Reimbursement for existing projects

§               Construction or renovation of major buildings

§               Wages, salaries, stipends, or honorariums

§               Operating expenses of another organization

§               Personal or professional development
