Great Rotary Duck Derby '00
The
Duck Derby is a major fund-raiser to support community projects. The first Duck
Derby was held Saturday, September 9, 2000, in conjunction with the Platte River
Parkway Fall Festival. The Platte River Parkway Association and the Five Trails
Club were junior partners. First year tickets were priced at $20.00 each. Prizes
were solicited from local businesses with the exception of a
dream prize of $20,000 that was purchased with an insurance
policy; 3,000 ducks were released. A computer program selected a random duck;
the dream prize was to be awarded if the randomly selected duck won. The same
computer program assigned names to each numbered duck at the time
the ducks were dropped from the nest. Five large prize trips were provided with
about 70 smaller prizes in the $30-$50 range. This format provided a number
of winners. Profits from the Duck Derby 2000 are
to be distributed as noted below.
