Hurricane/Disaster Book Distribution Mark Hoog; Herb McCulla; Aaron Polzin; Tom Welsh
Develop project to collect children’s books for eventual distribution to disaster areas in SE United States

Gustav Swanson Clean-Up
Jim Dawdy, CHAIR; Ron Chappell
Coordinate clean-up dates with city. Muster the troops for the clean-up days.

Secret Santa
Charlie Morris, CHAIR; Gary Turner
Coordinate with nonprofits and the club members for sign-up, collection, and distribution of gifts for needy families in Fort Collins. Perhaps stage a party for needy kids, instead of just depositing for distribution.

Meals on Wheels
Steve Eberhardt, CHAIR
Sign-up members for weekly tasks. Follow-up reminders for each week's assignments.

Food Bank
Phil Murphy, CHAIR
Compile a newsworthy weekly publication, delivered to each meeting with future, present, and past activities of the club as well as Rotary tidbits.

Girl Scout Clean-up

Coordinate with Kay Stevens for new dates with sufficient notice to club members for good participation. Orchestrate activities, lunch, tools, etc.

Children’s Garden at Spring Creek Ron Chappell, CHAIR; John Carroll, Ken Stone
Work with the city to find some projects the club can participate in while waiting for completion of gardens. Consider water fountain/plaque placement in garden for recognition of clubs and Four-Way Test. This is also a quad club project and might require some work with other club’s contacts when work or activities commence.

Laurel School
Lee Varra-Nelson, CHAIR; Kay Stevens, Marc Teets, Ken Stone, Susan Peterson
Continue reading program with Abbie Schnorr. Maintain sign-up responsibilities for readers. Implement a new strategy to become more involved and visible to the students at Laurel School. Explore the possibilities of sponsorship of new programs such as all school or primary grade assemblies, field trips, after school workshops, etc., including budget and time commitments. Continue to work with AR reading store (and its sponsor) with funding if necessary, as well as business leadership opportunities with upper grade students and student council.

Rotary Read (Quad Club) Charlie Peterson, CHAIR; Mahin Shahmardian, Monica Schneider, Gary Turner
Work with a quad club committee to improve literacy in elementary school students by:

  • Sponsoring Rotary READ Week in public, private, and home schools. Rotary READ Week sets a target for reading during the week of 15 minutes per day outside of school. If this is achieved and certified by a parent or guardian, the student becomes eligible to receive a $10 book certificate at Barnes and Noble Booksellers.

  • Bringing noted children’s book authors for elementary school and public library presentations.

  • Presenting children’s dictionaries to third grade students in the Poudre School District.

These programs are funded by sale of Buy-One-Get-One-Free cards for use at Pizza Hut and our club Community Service budget.

Centennial High School John Carroll, CHAIR; Tracy Mead, Tom Welsh, Curt Palin, Susan Peterson
Implement a new, more obvious presence with the student population, by working with Bryan Maddox. Consider more funding and ways in which the students can contribute by working on club projects. Consider help and support for their fundraising efforts. Continue Scholarship opportunities with more involvement from the recipients with the club. Implement a follow- up model for future scholars. Consider changing scholarship monies to tuition, instead of a dollar amount, and whether the club could support continuation of scholarship for more than one year. Explore feasibility of sending students to Mexico for club hands-on activities (coordinate with Tepic club, could be difficult, but doable). Introduce Centennial students to Interact club.
