International Services - Melanie Chamberlain, Director
IS-1 Ambassadorial Scholars Committee - Dan Michaels, Chair
Meeting time: Call of the Chair
Purpose:

To further international understanding and friendly relations among people of different countries by sponsoring several types of scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students as well as for qualified professionals pursuing vocational studies.
Guidelines:
Rotarians:
Carry our the Rotary selection process to pick scholars.
Publicize the availability of and selection criteria for the scholarships.

Scholars:
Serve as ambassadors of good will to people of the host country.
Give presentations about their homeland to Rotary clubs and other groups in the host country.

Share experiences after returning with Rotarians and others that led to greater understanding of their host country.

IS-2 Group Study Exchange Committee - Tammie Niemann and Chuck Rutenberg - Co-Chairs
Meeting time: Call of the Chair
Purpose:

To promote International understanding and goodwill through study exchange teams of non-Rotarians between the ages of 25 and 40. The visit usually are for a month, but may be longer.
Guidelines:
1. Provide detailed information about upcoming Exchanges and advise Club members of opportunities for Rotarians to serve as a team leader, who is selected by the District Committee. Each Club may nominate one member to compete for the District's Leader role. This should be done with handouts on the tables and in the Rotogear.
2. Advise Club members of upcoming exchanges and request them to nominate non- Rotarians between the ages of 25 and 40 to be team members and encourage them to submit an application. This should be done with handouts on the tables and in the Rotogear. Application forms also should be readily available through the Club's Secretary.
3. Maintain continuing contact with the District GSE Committee Chair about the scheduling incoming teams, so they can be given an opportunity to present a program, if at all possible.
4. Arrange for housing in the homes of Rotarians for the visiting team members. This is what the Exchange is all about and is a wonderful opportunity to learn about another country and its people.
5. Arrange visits with local professionals for the visiting team members and other programming for them. This includes arranging transportation both from the host homes and to group activities for the visiting team.
6. Sometimes, because of our proximity to the Denver International Airport, we might be asked to meet them upon their arrival. Also, we will be expected to either pick the visitors up from another Club or take them to the next Club that they will be visiting.

IS-3 International University Students Committee - Jean Griswold and Dick Dunn - Co-Chairs
Meeting time: Call of the Chair
Purpose:
  1. To acquaint CSU international students and scholars with the mission and activities of Rotary International and of our local club.
  2. To introduce Rotary members to the diversity in nationalities, religions and academic involvement of the CSU international community through invitations to CSU international students and scholars.
  3. To serve as hosts to the Fall CSU President's Reception for International Students.
  4. To provide hosts for guests to special Rotary Club functions such as the Annual State of the University Address.
Guidelines:
  1. Members are assigned to serve as hosts once a year for the internatiional students who are invited as guests on a monthly basis.
  2. Student guests are provided with a packet containing information on our local club and Rotary International, a summary of our club's an a 4-way test coin.
  3. Duties of the host:
  4. To provide transportation from the university or housing unit, it needed.
    To meet the student, sign him/her in, and escort him/her through the lunch line.
    To introduce the student to the members at the table.
    To introduce briefly the student to the club and allow the student to make a few remarks about where he/she is from, what he/she is studying, and plans for the future(no more than two minutes).
    To see that the student has transportation back to the university.

IS-4 The Rotary Foundation Committee - Melanie Chamberlain, Chair
Meeting time: Call of the Chair
Purpose:
The committee is responsible for making our membership aware of the objectives and programs of the Rotary Foundation and the importance of and ways to support those objectives and programs.

Guidelines:
  1. Keep track of members donations to the Foundation.
  2. Organize a meeting each November to celebrate Rotary Foundation Month and recognize member's contrubutions.
  3. Promote contributions to the Rotary Foundation.
  4. Promote members understanding of the objectives of the Rotary Foundation and to its charitable and educational programs.

IS-5 World Community Services Committee - Jim Epstein and Dave Pietenpol - Co-Chairs
Meeting time: The committee meets at 11:15 am on the third Wednesday of each month at the Lincoln Center prior to our club meeting except for August when we usually schedule a yearly planning meeting at another time and place.

Purpose:
The purpose of the World Community Service Committee (WCSC) is to carry out projects that improve the lives of people throughout the non-USA world. Project categories include but are not limited to health, education, economics and water. The committee favors projects that are carried out with a Rotary club in the project country, utilizes the skills of both club's members and are sustainable. Finances for these projects come from one or more of the following sources; our club budget, club members, our district, The Rotary Foundation, from an in country club and their district, and at times from governmental and non-governmental organizations. Project ideas generally originate from members of the committee.

Goals:
  1. Hold a yearly planning meeting.
  2. Submit a yearly budget to the club officers and report progress monthly.
  3. Involve as many committee members as possible in committee activities.
  4. Hold efficient meeting with pre-meeting agendas, published minutes and by using parliamentary procedure.
  5. Give an annual presentation to the club about activities and accomplishments.
  6. Develop and maintain helpful contacts with other Rotary Clubs and non-Rotary organizations that can help us be effective.
  7. Use all available tools to communicate with the committee members and club members.

IS-6 Youth Exchange Committee - Dan Mackey Chair
Meeting time: Call of the Chair
Purpose:
  1. To further international goodwill and understanding
  2. To enable year-long students to advance their education and to broaden their own outlook by learning to live with and meet people of different cultures
  3. To act as ambassadors for Rotary and for their own country
Guidelines:
Outbound
Interview and select the most qualified students to represent Rotary in the student's country of choice.
Inbound
To select for our inbound students Host Families who will provide a warm, caring environment for them while they are visiting our country.

Purpose:

To schedule classification talks for all new members.

Guidelines:
  1. Get the list of new members from Don Johnson.
  2. Contact new members to schedule classification talks at a regular Rotary meeting.
  3. Notify Sergeant-at-Arms of scheduled talks.
  4. Get written text of talk for web master to include on Classification Talk web page.

VS-2 Four-Way Test Committees - Max Getts -Chair
Meeting time: Call of the Chair
Purpose:

  1. To develop a program to introduce the Four-Way Test to organizations including Rotary clubs and schools.
  2. To get Fort Collins Rotary club members involved in carrying out these programs.
  3. To share this Four-Way Test program with other Rotary clubs.
  4. To update the program on an ongoing basis.
Guidelines:

  1. Work with schools to schedule Four-Way Test sessions.
  2. Get Rotary club volunteers for the school sessions.
  3. Recognize Rotary volunteers for their efforts.
  4. Publicize this program in Rotary publications and at Rotary meetings.
  5. Provide program materials and literature for others to use.

VS-2d BBB Four-Way Test Essay Contest - Lorna Reeves
 
Meeting time: Call of the Chair

Purpose: To award a $5,000 scholarship each year to a high school junior or senior in the Mountain States Better Business Bureau (BBB) region for the best essay about "How the Rotary Four-Way Test Impacts My Life."

Guidelines:
  • Rotary Club(s) in each community of the BBB region need to establish a committee to administer the Four-Way Test essay contest.
  • The administratine guidlines give timelines for the contest and indicate how the committees will work with schools to publicize the contest and determine each schools top candidates.
  • Essays must be the original work of the student and should be 1500-2000 words in length. Content should directly relate to ways in which the Four-Way Test has impacted the writer's life in the past or present, or may impact the writer's life in the future.
  • Judging criteria has been established to make the judging fair. The criteris is made up of Content, Language, Organization, and a Brief Biographical Sketch of the student. These guidelines will be used at all levels of the contest.
  • Rotary committees will pick the community winners then a BBB committee will judge essays from community finalists in a blind manner to select the final winner.
  • The scholarship will be awarded at the BBB Torch Awards Business Ethics dinner each year.

VS-3 Interact Committee - Stacy Baumgarn Chair
Meeting time: 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of each month; 7pm (during the school year excepting holidays) at Manno's Grille at Collindale Golf Course

Purpose:
Interact is a service and social club for young people ages 14-18. Each club is sponsored by a Rotary club, which guides the Interactors in developing local and international service projects. Interact derives its name from the words "international" and "action," reflecting the nature of an organization that exists in 110 countries and promotes active service at home and abroad. With almost 200,000 members and more than 8,600 clubs worldwide, Interact provides a powerful force of youthful enthusiasm and energetic service. Guidelines:
The Interact Club of Fort Collins was chartered in 2001 as a community based Interact club. That means that this Interact club is open to all young people (aged 14-18) of the community regardless of where they attend high school. The Interact club is jointly sponsored by the Rotary Club of Fort Collins - Downtown and the Fort Collins After Work Rotary Club. Our meetings begin at 7pm at the conclusion of the Fort Collins After Work Rotary Club.
Some of our service projects these past years have included:
  • Landscaping for Habitat for Humanity
  • Volunteers for the Realities Cup Golf Tournament
  • Volunteers for the Cemetery Crawl benefiting the F.C. Senior Center
  • Collecting school supplies for Africaid
  • Making blankets for Project Linus
  • Adopt a Bike Trail; keeping a section of the Poudre River Trai clean

Some of our fund-raising projects have included:
  • Recycling Christmas trees
  • Idea Wild - Natures Gone Wild Night at Nature's Own Imagination
  • Cotton candy for hurricane Katrina relief
  • Recycling cell phones and ink jet printer cartridges

VS -4 Merit Badge University Committee - Mike Stradt-Chair
Meeting time: Call of the Chair

Purpose:
To support the youth of our community through assisting boys, 11 to 17 years old, complete Boy Scout merit badges. It provides Rotarians a chance to share their profession or avocations with the young people of our community while providing the boys with an organized format to learn skills that will help them, and their community, for their entire lives.


Guidelines:
  1. Merit Badge University occurs on the first two Saturdays of January, 8:00 to 12:00 am.
  2. Rotarians volunteer to teach or assist in a class room setting in one of 20-24 merit badges being offered. The list of badges is distributed in November along with a merit badge book and computer codes to help the instructors plan their presentation.
  3. Other Rotarians may volunteer to work the second Saturday by reviewing and checking off homework boys need to do for some badge requirements.
  4. Rotarians may determine if the boys may follow up with the Rotarian to complete any remaining requirements after the two one hour sessions or just continue through Boy Scout channels.

VS-5 - Partners Committee - Dan Michaels
Purpose:  
To donate to a worthy cause, to generate publicity for the club and to enjoy fellowship with club members while participating annually in the Partners SuperStars Competition.

Guidelines:
Get club members, family, friends and acquaintenances to volunteer to participate in the Partners SuperStars Competition.
Publicize the event to the club.

VS-6 RotarAct Committee - Lannie Boyd - Chair
Meeting time: At 6:45, 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of the month, at Mulligans on South College

Purpose:

  1. To provide an opportunity for young men and women to enhance the knowledge and skills that will assist them in personal development.
  2. To address the physical and social needs of their communities.
  3. To promote better relations between all people worldwide through a framework of friendship and service.
Guidelines:
  1. Develop professional and leadership skills;
  2. Emphasize respect for the rights of others, and to promote ethical standards and the dignity of all useful occupations;
  3. Provide opportunities for young people to address the needs and concerns of the community and our world;
  4. Provide opportunities for working in cooperation with sponsoring Rotary Clubs;
  5. And motivate young people for eventual membership in Rotary.

VS-7 RYLA & Young RYLA Committee - Lloyd Thomas and Lannie Boyd - Co-Chairs

Purpose:
  1. To choose appropriate applicants for participation in both RYLA and Young RYLA
  2. To make RYLA and Young RYLA more visible in Ft. Collins and northern Colorado
  3. To encourage members of Rotary Clubs to participate in the RYLA program
Guidelines:
  1. Develop a selection process.
  2. Work with schools to get candidates.
  3. Selection criteria for students are: Character, Leadership potential, Extra-curricular activities, GPA, Desire to serve.

VS-8 - Student of the Month Committee - Terry Everett
Meeting time: Call of the Chair
Purpose:
To honor a highschool student in the Poudre School District as the "Student of the Month".

Guidelines:
  1. Work with schools to select candidates.
  2. Invite honorees to Rotary meeting on second Wednesday of month to receive award and give brief talk about activities.
  3. Present honored student with a placque.
  4. Invite members of the honorees school staff to award meeting to participate in introducing the student.

VS-9 - Teacher of the Month/and Year Committee - Garth McCann
Meeting time: Call of the Chair
Purpose:
To honor outstanding teachers in the Poudre School District.


Guidelines:  
The Teacher-of-the-Month/Year program was initiated by the three Rotary Clubs of Fort Collins in 19xx. Each month during the academic year, each of the three Rotary Clubs selects a teacher for recognition as that Club's Teacher-of- the-Month. Occasionally there is co-recognition. The recognized and honored teacher (s) comes to a Club meeting, makes a presentation and receives a plaque that commemorates her/his recognition. At the end of the year, a joint committee from the three clubs, selects a Teacher-of-the-Year and one or two runner (s)-up. These are recognized at a tri-club meeting held in May. At this meeting the Teacher-of-the-Year and the runner (s)-up receive another plaque and the Teacher- of-the-Month/Year also is recognized with a Paul Harris Fellow.
