Dengue Fever Projects (Project Contact, Dengue Fever Projects: Dutch Gubler

  • Dengue Fever Prevention in the Philippines and Colombia: 3-H Grant 97-6: A major educational effort in Colombia and the Philippines to reduce the incidence of Dengue Fever, begun in 1996, completed in 2001, but continuing in the Philippines . . (Cost: $675,000; FC: $3,500)
  • Dengue Fever in Indonesia: 3-H Grant #00-114: A project targeting 14 major urban areas in Indonesia, begun in 2001, highlighting educational programs for the public, and training of medical personnel. (Cost: $295,000; FC share: $3,000)
  • Dengue Fever in Argentina: MG #12426: A project in a suburban area near Buenos Aires, in cooperation with the Rotary Club of Jose Maria Ezeiza. A major outbreak of Dengue Fever in this area for irst time in decades has alarmed health authorities in Argentina. (Cost: $20,000; FC share: $3,500)
  • Dengue Fever in Denpasar, Bali: MG#19658: A project to reduce the incidence of Dengue Fever in Denpasar, Bali, a city of 475,000 persons, will provide organized inspection and elimination of mosquito breeding sites in and around homes, education of adults and children, and training of medical personnel in diagnosing and treating the disease. (Cost: $20,000; FC share: $3,200)
  • Dengue Fever in Purwokerto, Indonesia: MG #7365: During 1999 when this project was underway, there were no reported cases of Dengue in the targeted areas of the City of Purwokerto (pop.400, 000). (Cost: $30,000; FC share: $5,000)

Clean Water Projects:

  • Water Treatment Plant in San Isidro, Colombia: MG #6976: A slow sand-filter water treatment plant to provide pure water to the residents of San Isisdro Pueblo, Colombia. (Cost $100,000; FC share: $5,000)
  • Electric Power for Water Treatment Plant in Colombia: MG #19142: Electric power to operate the pumps for the plant constructed under MG #6976. (Cost: $17,500; FC share: $1,669)
  • "Save Water, Save Lives": Clean Water in Indonesia: MG #19660: A project with eight miles of piping, plus storage/distribution reservoirs,to bring clean water from a reservoir by gravity flow to 5200 residents of Karang Tengah, a village in Central Java. (Cost: $32,740; FC share: $4,000)
  • Clean Water for Kalisak and Kalisari Villages in Indonesia: MG #12047: A project to provide clean water to residents of Kalisak and Kalisari villages in Central Java. (Cost: $9,370; FC share: $2,485)
  • Clean Water for Ciberung and Krajan Villages in Indonesia: MG #7023: A project approved in 1997 to provide clean water to the residents of Ciberung and Krajan villages in Central Java. (Cost: $9,700; FC share: $1,050)

  • Equipment for School for Disabled Children: MG #21911: A project to provide hearing aids, furniture, kitchen equipment, and sanitary waste system for a residential school at Moodubage, India serving deaf, dumb, and physically disabled children. (Cost: $10,000; FC share: $2,170)
  • Project Deaf 2000: MG #19838: A project to provide equipment for diagnosis, and treatment of hearing problems among poor residents of Chitradurga, India. Volunteers help educate patients and train local medical personnel. (Cost: $8,000; FC share: $2,000)
  • Desks, Benches, and Clean Water for Schools: MG #15398: Benches and desks for five poor rural village schools in India, and a clean water system for one of the schools. Previously, the children sat on the ground. (Cost: $3,610; FC share: $902)
  • Project Deaf India: MG #12024 (with FC Breakfast Club): A project to provide audiovisual equipment for training mothers to work with their deaf children. (Cost: $10,000;FC share: $1,000)
  • Health Care for Young Women: MG #8884: A pilot program to provide training and information on nutrition, health care, and birth control for young women of child-bearing age in Sringeri, India. (Cost: $10,000; FC share: $2,500)
  • Health Care for Young Women: MG #13444: Expansion of the health education program for young women of Sringeri. (Cost: $5,000; FC share: $1,250)
  • ASsthma Camps: MG #9914: Funding for camps in India in which volunteers provide care and treatment for asthma patients. (Note:Dr. Vedanthan helps establish and operate these camps as a Rotary Volunteer.) (Cost: $8,000; FC share: $2,000)

  • Microcredit Bank: MG #16373: Small loans (typically $100 or less) to poor women to begin or expand small home enterprises which provide support for their families. The loans must be repaid with interest and the proceeds made available for additional loans. (Cost: $10,000; FC share: $3,000)
  • Foreign Lanuage Training: MG#13977: Computers and audio/visual equipment were provided for foreign language instruction for junior/senior high students in Nusaputera School for poor children in Semarang. (Cost: $26,560; FC share: $4,635)
  • School Supplies and Uniforms: MG#19659: School bags, uniforms, shoes, books, and supplies were supplied 1,000 refugee children in Cilicap. (Cost: $10,000; FC share: $3,300)
  • Beef Cattle Feeding: MG#21178: A project to procure beef calves for fattening, with proceeds from sale to be used for improved health and education of children of village near Salatiga, Central Java. (Project contact: Claude Piche) (Cost: $7,080; FC share: $2,000)
  • Cataract Surgery: MG#12046: Cataract surgery to restore the sight of 120 poor, elderly persons in Purwokerto, with surgery donated by Indonesian doctors (Cost: $11,400;FC share: $4,450)
  • Cataract Surgery: MG#9946: Cataract surgery for 100 poor elderly persons in Purwokerto, Central Java. (Cost: $11,000; FC share: $4,300)

Other Projects:

  • PolioPlus Partners: Funds donated by members to fund National Immunization Days (NIDs) in countries where polio still exists; part of the major effort by Rotary to eliminate polio worldwide by 2005, its 100th birthday.
  • Medical Library: MG #18509: A project with CAMO (Central American Medical Outreach) to provide a medical library in a hospital in Santa Rosa de Copan, with bookshelves, computers, visual aid equipment, and furniture.   • Marine Education for Conservation in the Solomon Islands: MG#21917: A project with Nature Conservancy and Rotary Club of Honiara to educate natives in conservation/utilization of marine resources and development of local enterprises.   • Russian Farm Youth Program: A project with District 5440 to bring Russian youths to our area for on-hands training in good farming techniques and practices. (Project Contact: C. J. Streit; phone: 970-493-2310.)
  • Russian CCI Program: Participation with other Clubs in Fort Collins in a 3-week program to host and provide training for 11 Russian business men and women involved in various aspects of construction. (Project Contact: Dick Dunn; phone: 970-484-0974.)
