Statement about Kimberly: Kimberly Oldaker was nominated by the Foothills Club. Kim came to Wellington Jr. High School four years ago after teaching in New Mexico for several years and teaches Honors English 9, United States History, and is the AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) lead teacher. AVID is a program that exists only in the north area of Fort Collins and focuses on students in the academic middle who, with mentoring and support, will attend a four-year college upon graduation from high school. Kim is the driving force in Eagles After Hours, Wellington Jr. High's after-school program, where she teaches and monitors the 150 students attending the program. She works with National Junior Honor Society, Eagle Power, the student government group, and is very involved with her church where she leads youth groups and goes on mission trips all over the world. Between building homecoming floats, offering academic tutoring, taking students on educational trips to New York City, running community service projects-including toys for orphans in Mexico, canned food drives, etc., Kim find time to support her students in their extracurricular projects, rarely missing a concert, game, or play. |
