| Introduction
by Kim Nohava, Zach Elementary Principal
The Zach Elementary staff and I are proud to announce the selection of Jody Moore, second grade teacher, as our
"Rotary Teacher of the Month". Jody is an outstanding teacher who deserves this recognition. She is one of the most
dedicated, hard-working, goal oriented teachers in the school. Jody works an endless amount of hours in preparation
of her daily instruction for her students. She is highly requested by parents and the first grade teachers often
select her to teach their most needy students because it is known at this school that Jody will do her best to
help any student be successful. Anyone who has had the opportunity to work with Jody knows her "love for teaching" and her
professional standards. She passes her knowledge onto other teachers through staff meetings and other opportunities. She
is an exdmplary teacher.

12, 2007
Garth McCann introduced Teacher of the Month Jody Moore.
The Following Are The Statements That Nancy Made In The Rotary Teacher
of the Month Form:
Positions and years in Poudre School District:
This is my 16th year teaching in Poudre School District. Positions:
-Irish Elementary School - Second grade and Second/Third grade combination class teacher - Fall 1992-Spring 1995 (3 years)
-Kruse Elementary School - Second grade teacher - Fall 1995-Spring 2002 (7 years)
-Zach Elementary School - Third grade teacher - Fall 2002-present (5 years)
What are your community activities?
-Community events related to school. Past Examples:
Fall Family dance
Reading at Barnes and Noble for our Zach Elementary Bookfair
School Carnival
Partnership with some residents at Collinwood Assisted Living Community in Fort Collins (Reading Buddies with my
second graders and community parade)
What do you like best about teaching?
I love seeing the light bulb "come on" when a student learns something new- especially if he/she
has been struggling to grasp a skill or concept, then he/she finally gets it! Hooray!
What are you most proud of in your career?
I'm proud that I come to school each day determined to help my students learn and to reach their
highest potential. I feel I have a strong work ethic, and I strive to be a positive role model for my students, and
hopefully for my colleagues, too, I've greatly enjoyed supervising Student Teachers and being a mentor for new
teachers starting out in the teaching profession.
In addition, I'm proud that I earned my Master's in Education degree
in 1998. The "Integrating the Creative Arts into the Regular Classroom" program helped me to "stretch to new heights"
personally, and to incorporate some fresh, fun activities into my classroom.
Finally, last Spring I was honored at Poudre High School's IB graduation ceremony. A former second grader named me as a most
influential teacher in her school career. It was quite an honor for me to be recognized by a student who had been in my
second grade class 10 years ago!
What is the single biggest stumbling block you have in teaching?
Balancing the many demands of a teacher and doing it ALL well-teaching the required curriculum,
meeting the standards, preparing students for all the standardized tests, making at least a year's growth with all
my students, communication with parents, coordinating volunteers, working with my grade-level team and other staff
members, serving on committees, character education, bully-proofing, and more!
It's important to stay focused on
the KIDS, and to make learning meaningful and fun!
Given the opportunity, what would you to do eliminate it?
Stay focused on my students, prioritize, be organized, and take one day at a time!
What is the greatest problem facing Poudre School District today?
I feel that Poudre School District needs to continue to strive to meet the many needs of our diverse learners.
What recommendations do you have to solve it?
Continue to provide options for parents, and possibly add more. For example, certain schools focus
on Science. Others have accelerated programs. Some provide extra resources and help for struggling learners. There are
fantastic Special Education programs. The Core Knowledge Curriculum challenges many students and helps to provide a
strong foundation of learning.
We need to keep accessing the student's needs and listening to parent, teacher, and community requests to best meet the needs
of our students. They're our future!
