Foothills Rotary Committees 2006/2007
Purpose: Currently this is a quad-club function with the aim being to select and tutor one candidate to represent each of the four Rotary clubs in the Fort Collins area.
Chairperson: Bill Trewartha
Meeting times/ Time commitment:
Representatives from each of the four clubs meet in February/March to
interview prospective nominees, typically on a Saturday morning. There are
phone calls throughout the winter to organize and schedule application
notice distribution, collection and review. Tutoring may be by phone or in
person with the purpose being to educate the nominees about Rotary in
general, the Rotary District selection process and what the nominees should
expect at the district interviews.
The mission of the Foothills Rotary Club Community Service Committee is to pursue the Club's goals to support organizations committed to helping those in need in Northern Colorado, with an emphasis on youth.
Committee Chair: Will Horton
The committee meets once a quarter for approximately 1.5 hours toconsider applications for funding. The committee meets for one additional meeting to plan for the Holiday Basket Program.
No additional members are needed at this time.
MISSION: Long term goals are to continue coordinating group study exchanges to foreign countries. This consists of selecting outstanding young business people from ages 25 to 40 to go on a 4-6 week study every year. This promotes the international spirit of Rotary. This year's goals are to organize a group to study in Brazil, and this committee has already selected a young business person. Our candidate is on the waiting list to go out on the exchange. We have a GSE group that will be here in May or June from Brazil. Bill's involved with arranging host families while GSE's are here in the US.
Chairperson: Brian Sullivan
MEETINGS: Presently this is a one person committee, so there is no organized meeting time. It would be ideal to have another Foothills Rotarian assist with this committee. There is no need for a formal meeting time of a small committee. It would require only a little coordination during interview time.
TIME COMMITMENT - Five to 10 hours per year, mostly during the interview process.
Mission Statement: Make you Laugh!
Chair: Monty Weymouth
Purpose: Schedule members to deliver an inspirational message at the beginning of each meeting and be prepared to substitute for designated speaker at the last moment. Keep Roto-Reader editor and President informed of slated speakers. Remind speakers a week ahead of time of their commitment.
Chairperson: Sherry Sexton
Meeting Times / Time Commitment: No meetings needed. Committee members alternate months for recruiting speakers, doing so approx. one month in advance. (This takes approx. ½ to 1 hour each month for the recruiter)
MISSION: To promote the ideals of Rotary to high schools students. Our club is working on gathering information from the students to see how we can tailor their interact club/clubs. Foothills wants to become involved with these students, and we need direction from them.
Chairperson: Scott Woods
MEETINGS: The Interact club meets twice a month, and Foothills committee members have been meeting between those meetings during the initial set up of this group. Although it has been in existence, we are exploring how to best restructure, and grow this club.
TIME COMMITMENT: Three hours a month for Interact meetings, and after we have processed the feedback from these students, time should be less than 5 hours a month.
International Exchange (Academic)
MISSION: The foreign exchange committee has been an integral part of Foothills Rotary every year, many years. Our club has hosted students from Russia, Brazil, Argentina, Italy, Belgium, Germany, Mexico, and Thailand, to name a few. While we host a student every year, we also send out a student from Fort Collins to one of these other countries. Our interview process helps insure quality students are sent, and our club has benefited greatly from this program. It helps foster international understanding like no other program can, and we are proud to be involved. This year our student will arrive in January, and return in December. The academic year is different in countries south of the equator, so this will be a new experience for us. Our club still needs a couple host families for 2006-2007 year. It is a requirement that participating students attend school in a foreign country for the full academic year.
Chairperson: Charlie Cuypers
MEETINGS: Presently this is a one person committee, but there is room for two more: one person to help with interviews, and another to arrange host families.
TIME COMMITMENT: Applications are taken from Sept to Oct. After, there is minimal time coordinating with the district committee. There is always some work to do staying in contact with students, parents teachers. During interview season, there is about 40 hours of work to do, and then there is a couple hours every month.
International Exchange (Summer)
MISSION: Wanted, one person to head this committee, and coordinate the summertime exchange. A student is matched with another student in a foreign country. They spend two to four weeks in each of their home countries, so each student has the opportunity to experience life in a different country.
Chairperson: Brian Sullivan
MEETINGS - Would only need to coordinate meetings during interview season, held during Jan – March. Time will be devoted to interviewing students and working with a district person locating the right country for applicant.
TIME COMMITMENT: From Jan to Mar, it would require approximately 20 hours
Goal: to recruit new members, mentor those new members into full Club participation and retain membership
Chair: Ron Randle
Time Commitment:
No regularly scheduled meetings, we meet as needed, about four times per
year. Each member of the committee has a responsibility as follows:
- Recognize the Rotarian of the Month, 20minutes/month
- Mentoring new members, time is various
- Monitoring Red Badge members, 15 minutes per month
- Attendance monitoring/motivation, 20-30 minutes per quarter
- Orientation of prospective members, 20 minutes per month
Committee Chair: Brad Bischoff
Goals: Increase Paul Harris Fellows 10%, Increase undesignated contributions, Urge completion of Polio Plus pledges

Chairperson: Garrett Tate
MEETINGS: The Rotaract Club meets the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of the month at Old Chicago Downtown.
TIME COMMITMENT: Attending two meetings a month will require about 3 hours a month, and there will be little time required other than that.
Purpose is to support and encourage reading throughout Poudre School District
Current Chair: Greg Vosseteig
Meeting times: 1st Wednesday evening each month and otherwise as needed at 5:30 pm.
Time commitment: 1-3 hours per month on average depending on participation level.
MISSION: To encourage young students to become leaders, by sponsoring four students to a Rotary sponsored leadership camp. The Senior RYLA (High School Students) meets for one week during July at the YMCA camp in Estes Park. Junior RYLA (7th graders going into 8th grade) meets for one week at a camp in Larkspur. Young RYLA program is four years old, and our club has not yet sponsored any students for this. Positions for the Senior RYLA have been difficult to fill, so I want to reduce the number of sponsorships from four to two, and have our club sponsor two Junior RYLA for the first time. Reports from past RYLA attendees have been nothing but excellent.
Chairperson: Everrett Schneider
MEETINGS: The only meetings presently required are just to coordinate interviews with students. This is done as a quad club, and interviews are during February-March.
TIME COMMITMENT: This will require about 10 hours during February-March, with a couple hours of follow up shortly after students return from camp. This is a fairly simple committee, and working in conjunction with the Quad clubs, there would not be a lot of work. One additional committee member would be OK, but mostly as a mentoring process.
Purpose: To recognize one teacher from the PSD each month through the course of the school year. The PSD establishes the schedule and the school nominates the teacher. Chairperson: Becky Vasos
Meeting Times / Time Commitment: Twice per year - 15 to 20 mins. each (August for kickoff, May for wrap up and nominee selection) plus each month during meeting to listen and evaluate teacher during teacher of the month segment scheduled for first Tuesday of month, plus shared duties for hosting/introducing teachers during this meeting segment. (4-5 hrs per yr)
