Scott DeVries
2006 Teacher of the Year
Scott DeVries is beginning his 26th year of teaching in the Poudre
School District. The first 14 years of his career was spent at Cache la
Poudre Junior High School in Laporte. Scott had been at Preston for the
last 12 years. He has taught World Geography, United States History,
Civics and World History. His current assignment consists of 3 sections
of Pre AP World History and 3 sections of Pre AP United History. In
1999, Scott was chosen as one of four teachers in Colorado to receive
the Milken Family Foundation National Educator Award. In 2006, he was
named the Colorado History Teacher of the Year by the Gilder Lehrman
Institute for American History and Preserve America.
"Please convey my thanks to everyone at Foothills Rotary Club. I
am so honored and humbled by this recognition. I have teacher friends
all over the country and they are continually amazed at the level of
support for teachers in Fort Collins. Many wish they could pull up
stakes and move here. :-) Thank you again for all the Rotary
support of teachers, it is greatly appreciated."
