District Governor George McIlvaine

We were honored to host our District Governor, George McIlvaine and his Assistant DG, Bill Schaffter. We were doubly pleased to have a bevy of guests including Tammy Applegate, Guest of Susan Gust, Charlie Coleman, guest of Ron Clark, and visiting Rotarians, Doug DeMercurio and Ginny Lear.

DG George McIlvaine reiterated the RI President's four initiatives:

  1. Clean Water
  2. Health and Hunger
  3. Family of Rotary
  4. Literacy
George's focus is on literacy and he has set up a project to give third graders in the district dictionaries. The one he showed to the club can be purchased for $1.47 each. George pointed out that there are 2 billion people worldwide that are illiterate. He supports promoting peace through literacy.

Editor's opinion: I have now set through approximately 25 district governor's visits, and I believe this is the best one I have seen. George was engaging and brought needed impact to his visit. After having done this with 40 other clubs before visiting ours, he didn’t have that glazed look that I have seen from other DG’s who are worn down by the process. He was fresh and enthusiastic about Rotary and what it can do. Well done, George.
