Mom's Club of the Windsor Area
GUESTS
We were graced with guests and visiting Rotarians. Visiting Rotarians included Doug DiMercurio, recently returned from the Boston Marathon. We were also visited by Greeley Redeye Rotarians (the club, not their physical appearance) Norma Carter and Fern Koehler who were here to promote their annual begonia sale. Bruce Florquist brought Dawn Brodzeller, Mayor Pro-Tem of the Town of Severance as his guest.
PROGRAM
We were pleased to have three members of the Mom's Club of the Windsor Area as our guest presenters. Margaret Blythe is the founder and president of the local chapter. She was assisted by Karen Hayes and Tiffany Metcalf. They also brought some of their children who said hello to the group, and then went to play in the gym.
The Mom's Club is a support group for stay-at-home mothers. The local group was founded in June 2005 and now has 39 mothers with an aggregate of about 70 children. They have an interactive on-line calendar so that moms can post play dates, outings and other information for members of the group. They have held numerous fund raisers with the bulk of the money going to charities for women and children. Karen Hayes discussed how hard it was for her when she moved to the area. She was pregnant at the time and knew few people. She joined the Mom's Club when her baby was six months old. The Mom's Club provided support and fellowship with women in similar circumstances.
Blythe told us that prospective members must attend two meetings before they decide to join. The fees are $20 per year which covers administration costs. They would like mothers to stay in the club after their children enter school. Activities for moms and kids include educational tours, fun times, family involvement, camping, bowling, and a frequent "tribal bash" where they prepare a dinner for the night.
