Tailholt--the Development

First, my apologies to Sandi Squicquero for erroneously locating her in Rawlins. I must have had a flashback.

Guests last week included Mary Vallei a guest of Sandi’s, and Bruce Florquist brought his wife Karen. President Ardin reminded us that we will have election of officers at the next meeting (where you will see this in hard copy). If you have a desire to serve as an officer or on the Board, please let Ardin know before the start of the meeting.

PROGRAM
Bruce Florquist introduced the speaker for the day, Stan Everitt, Executive Vice President of Everitt Companies. Stan and his family have a long history in the area. His father started Everitt Lumber in Ft. Collins in 1953. Later, his father started doing some land development and the company evolved into a real estate business. The Everitts were responsible for the Foothills Fashion Mall in Ft. Collins.

In 1999 Stan was invited by the Mayor of Severance to look into development in the Severance area because several of the developments there had not gone well. His first venture there was the Timber Ridge Subdivision. Nearly all of the single family residences there are built out, and the Third Filing just opened with three new houses occupied.

As part of the development plan, Everitt put together a large block of ground and has been working on a master plan for its development. The overall name of the development is Tailholt which refers back to the name intended for Severance when it was started. Stan showed a promotional video that gave the background of Severance and Tailholt and the plans for the future. The proposed development will have a new town center with Town Hall, Post Office, church and other amenities. The overall development is broken down into five distinct neighborhoods, each with a unique approach but true to the overall concept.

Schools are already in the works thanks to the recently passed bond issue. A middle school is expected to be open in 2009 with a new elementary school scheduled for 2010-2011. The Archdiocese of Denver has bought property in the area and is planning a Catholic High School there. Everitt said he expects build out to take 30 years.

QUIZ
The answer to last weeks quiz is: Teddy Roosevelt was the first American to win a Nobel Peace Prize. He received that award in 1906. Next question: What is the name of the dog on the Cracker Jack box?

Thought for the day: “Poetry is to the human condition as a telescope is to a scientist” V.V. Raman, Physicist and Hindu Scholar.

Medical Hypnosis

Nancy Miller was a guest of Jody Niswender last week. There were no announcements.

PROGRAM
The program was provided by our newest member, Sandi Squicquero. Sandi runs the Medical Hypnosis and Counseling Center here in Windsor. She came to town about two years ago and has quickly become a well known fixture in the community. She was assisted by her husband, Dr. Dave Squicquero and Sara Umland who provided a testimony to the efficacy of Sandi’s work.
Sandi started out by playing an audio tape of her hypnosis technique which, form my observations, was very effective. She discussed relaxation techniques, self positive suggestions, and told us that all hypnosis is really self hypnosis. Sandi has worked as a counselor in various positions including pardon and parole. She taught herself self hypnosis and then went in to train as a hypno-therapist.

Sandi told us that 90% of her patients are involved with hypnosis at one time or another during treatment. She said that hypnosis can work for a variety of issues. She is about 80% successful with smoking secession. Weight loss is also very successful but she said it is not a rapid program.
Sara Umland told how hypnosis helped her overcome anxiety caused by the death of her grandfather several years ago. Her anxiety was exhibited by nail biting, which she admits she still does, but more out of habit than anything else.

QUIZ
The cowboy that was assigned the task of prodding cattle with a stick during a cattle drive was known as a…wait for it…wait for it…”Cowpoke”. As an aside: the Song goes …”that dirty little coward who shot Mr. Howard, and laid poor Jesse in his grave” refers to the killing of Jesse James by Robert Ford. Robert Ford was killed in Creede, CO and buried there. (I have visited his grave site.) He was later disinterred and moved to Missouri.

Next question: Former Vice President Al Gore went to Oslo this week to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. Who was the first American awarded the Nobel Peace Prize and what year?
