Nancy Pettus, a
member of the Jackson Hole Breakfast Rotary Club, is a retired alternative
education administrator who lives with her husband, Bill, in Jackson Hole,
Wyoming. Bill is a Past District Governor of District 5440 having served in
2002-03. Both Nancy and Bill are natives of Wyoming though they spent their
professional careers in California. Nancy has an MA in Educational
Counseling, an MA in Developmental Psychology and did extensive post masters
work in school psychology and education administration. Currently, Nancy
serves on the Development Board of the School of Education, University of
Wyoming
Since joining Rotary in 1996, Nancy
has served two clubs and her district in many capacities. In California,
Nancy did her club’s newsletter and served on several committees. Since
moving to Jackson, Nancy has belonged to the Rotary Club of Jackson Hole
Breakfast and served as chair or member of most club committees. She was
club president in 2001-02 and received the Distinguished Club President
award from the RI President, one of only 67 worldwide.
At a district level Nancy has
served as Assistant Governor (2004-06), District Newsletter Editor, was a
member of the Literacy, Public Relations, World Community Service and
Foundation Committees. Nancy was Grants Chair 2004-06 and will serve on the
District Training Team in 2006-07. During 2005-06 Nancy served as Governor’s
Representative and facilitated the chartering of a new Rotary club in
Jackson Hole. At the High Country PETS, which serves four districts, Nancy
conducted both District specific and general (four district) AG training. In
2006-07 Nancy served as Chairman of the High Country PETS Committee.
Both Nancy and Bill are Major
Donors, Bequest Society and Paul Harris Society members, and Benefactors to
The Rotary Foundation. They have three daughters and sons in law and six
grandchildren, all of whom they have made Paul Harris Fellows. When not
involved in Rotary activities, Bill and Nancy enjoy travel, reading,
gardening, woodworking and hosting Rotary friends from around the US and
world. Nancy also makes quilts and raised $22,000 for The Rotary Foundation
Polio Eradication Campaign when one of her quilts was raffled off at a
District Conference.
ASSISTANT GOVERNORS
Judith
"Judy" M. Boggs is the Assistant Governor for Sedgwick County and
Sterling Rotary Clubs. Judy grew up in the Fort Collins area. I attended Fort Collins
High School and Colorado State University and has a Masters in Floral
Finance. Judy has owned and operated Paul Wood Florist for over 28 years and
has taught in the Horticulture ‘Department at Colorado State University for
21 years. She is now teaching in the Horticulture Department at Front Range
Community College. Judy has a passion for flowers and teaching! Judy has been a member of the Downtown
Rotary Club since 1994 and served as its President in 2004/2005. She has
also been involved in all four avenues of service. Judy is committed to the
Rotary philosophy and to the wonderful fellowship it provides. Judy’s
husband Forrest just retired last year after 33 years in teaching and
administration with the Public School System. They have one son, two
daughters and six grandchildren. Both Forrest and Judy are Paul Harris
Fellows.
Bryan Cooke is the Assistant Governor for
Greeley, Greeley Centennial, Greeley Redeye, High
Plains (Eaton) and Johnstown/Milliken Rotary Clubs Bryan has been married to Carolyn for 39 years. They have two children Hilary 35
is married & lives in Sussex Wisconsin & Ian (25) who lives in Denver. They
have lived in Greeley Colorado since 1968.
Bryan was born in Agra, India and graduated in 1954
from La Martiniere College, Lucknow, with the University of Cambridge Higher
School Certificate (A levels). On completion of the Trained Teachers'
Certificate from St Mary's College in Poona, he returned to his alma
mater in Lucknow where he taught for 5 years & earned the Bachelors degree
from Aligarh University. During that time he graduated first in the nation
for pre-commission officer training in the National Cadet Corps (ROTC) Air
Wing. In 1959 he was state decathlon champion & successfully coached rugby &
boxing.
He taught at St Johns School in Friern Barnet, England & earned the
Post-graduate Certificate in Education from London University & the Amateur
Athletic Association Senior Coach Award in Track & Field.
Bryan then studied
Health Education, Cultural Anthropology & Radio & Television at the
University of Illinois & graduated with the MS (1965) & PhD (1968). In
1985-'86 he completed Master of Public Health (MPH) degree while on a NIH
Post-doctoral Fellowship doing research on cardio-vascular risk factor
reduction in children.
After teaching for
35 years at the University of Northern Colorado, Bryan retired as Professor
Emeritus in August 2003, having chaired the Department of Community Health
for 16 years & serving as Graduate Coordinator of the MPH degree program for
4 years. During this period, Bryan coordinated the First Medical & Health
Specialists Training program for the US Peace Corps in Malaysia (1973),
received 3 Fulbright Fellowships to Australia (1980), India (1999) & India
(2003-4). He successfully coordinated the First USA Rugby Trials (1976) and
the National Collegiate Rugby Championships (1981).
Bryan joined the
Greeley Rotary Club in 1987, served as President (1995-'96). He Chaired
the District GSE Committee (1989-1992) & Chaired the District Ambassadorial
Scholarship Committee (1993-1995). In 1996 he served as a Trainer for PETS.
He was awarded the Rotary Professor in a Developing Country (India) in 1999
& 2004-5, where he worked on HIV prevention & polio eradication.
At the 2004 District
Conference he served as aide-de-camp to Rotary International President's
Representatives Charlie & Doris Laine and he currently serves as a District
Trainer for the Mid-Winter District Assembly & President Elect Training
Seminar.
Wayne Gentry is the Assistant Governor for Morrill, Scottsbluff/Gering and
Torrington Rotary Clubs. Wayne
is a 62-year-old retired educator and high school administrator from
Torrington, WY. He enjoyed 32 years and has been retired for eight years. He
has been a member of Rotary since 1976, when he received the book Adventure
in Service. Wayne has served in most positions in his local club. He is most
proud of the student of the month program he helped start many years ago.
The program recognizes two outstanding seniors and their parents each month
from one of the three high schools in the Goshen County Unified School
District #1.
Wayne is a Paul Harris Fellow and a
Benefactor to the permanent fund of the Foundation. He is looking forward to
growing in his new position of AG and working with the clubs in Torrington,
Morrill, and Scottsbluff/Gering.
He has been very active in his church
serving as Senior Warden for the past three years. Stays active in his
community enjoying many friendships in his coffee club, bowling, pool,
investment club, and retired school administrators. Wayne loves traveling to
the Kansas City area, Denver, and Phoenix to visit his adult children and
grandchildren. His passion is following his beloved St. Louis Cardinals
Baseball Club and was rewarded this year with a World Series Championship.
Wayne was born in St. Charles, MO where he lived for his first 8 years,
moving to Mitchell, NE where he graduated from high school. He received his
Bachelor’s of Education from Chadron State College and his Masters in
Educational Administration from the University of Wyoming. He has lived in
Torrington, WY the past 40 years.
Wayne currently enjoys the company of
his new lady friend, Shelly from Casper, WY. He is blessed with two
outstanding sons and his pooh-bear daughter, his baby at 32 years of age. He
delights in being a grandfather to his seven beautiful grandchildren
consisting of 3 girls and 4 boys ages 2 to 8!
La Vertha Gotier is the Assistant Governor for
Cody, Powell and Worland Rotary Clubs. La Vertha grew up in Oakland, California. She
has been married to her husband, Roy, for 52 years. We have 4 children,
three grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild. I have lived in many places in
the U.S. and abroad.(Tripoli, Libya, and Republic of the Phillipines). For
the past 29 years I have resided in Worland, Wyoming. I was Mayor of Worland
from 2000-2004. I am very involved in community and state through a variety
of organizations to include: Rotary District 5440, President, Toastmaster’s
International, American Legion Auxiliary, former Federal Women’s Program
Coordinator past President of Victim of Violence board of Director’s,
Leadership Wyoming Class of 2002, and alumni board member, Wyoming Main
Street Board of Directors, member of State Board of Directors for American
Red Cross, Absaroka Head Start board member. Attended Stephens College in
Columbia, Missouri, Northwest Community College, Powell, Wyoming. Sing on
praise team at Zion Lutheran Church. Hobbies: Singing, golfing, and meeting
people.
Doug Mannering
is the Assistant Governor for Cheyenne, Cheyenne Sunrise, Laramie and
Laramie Sunrise Rotary Clubs. Doug has been
married to Lynette for 39 years and they have two children and three
grandchildren. Doug and Lynette have lived in Loveland since 1973.
Doug is a native
of Illinois, graduating from the University of Illinois in 1970 with a major
in accounting. He was a shareholder of U.S. Engineering and served as its
Corporate Secretary and Regional Controller until his retirement in 2003.
Doug joined
Rotary in 1987, and served as president of Loveland Rotary in 2005-06. His
year as president included the beginnings of two significant new programs in
Loveland. One is the Four-Way Test program for 8th graders and the other is
a Teacher of the Month recognition of Thompson School District treachers. He
has visited the Tehuacan Manatiales Rotary Club in Tehuacan, Mexico, the
sister club started by a former exchange student to the Loveland club in
1973-74. The Loveland Rotary Club has a long relationship with that club and
is now doing international projects outside of Mexico with them. Doug and
Lynette have hosted Rotary exchange students and Rotary Friendship Exchange
participants, and feel proud to be a part of the good will spread by
Rotarians around the globe.
Doug and Lynette
are both Paul Harris Fellows, and enjoy traveling, photography, hiking and
snowshoeing. Doug has served on the boards of several Loveland non-profits,
and currently serves as Secretary/Treasurer of Namaqua Center, which has a
residential program for abused and neglected children.
Nancy Muldoon is the Assistant Governor for Craig, Ski Town, USA and
Steamboat Springs Rotary Clubs. Nancy grew up in San Antonio , Texas , and attended Vassar College . She
graduated from Texas A & M University and received her M.B.A. from Regis
University . She has held positions in management in for-profit and
not-for-profit businesses throughout her career, retiring in 2003.
She has been
involved in Rotary since 1965, first as a Rotary Ann and then joining the
Sterling , CO , Rotary Club in 1992. She has participated in two Friendship
Exchanges, one to Russia and the other to Australia . Serving as a RYLA
Senior Counselor, one year she assisted in the training of a Saratov
Rotaracter to successfully establish RYLA in Eastern Russia .
She is currently
serving on the District Friendship Exchange Committee. She and husband Bill
like to travel and are members of the International Travel and Hosting
Fellowship and International Fellowship of Skiing Rotarians. Seeing
first-hand how The Rotary Foundation can make a difference in the world,
Nancy became a Paul Harris Fellow and Major Donor.
She is married
to PDG Bill Muldoon . They have a son, Bill IV, and daughter, Shevaun, who
live in Houston TX . She and Bill enjoy spending time with their kids and
four grandchildren.
Bill Patton is the Assistant Governor for Buffalo, Gillette,
Gillette-Energy, Ranchester-Dayton and Sheridan Rotary Clubs. Bill was born in Montana, but the family soon moved to Sheridan. He
graduated from Sheridan High School in 1966, and the University of Wyoming
in 1970 with a degree in Aerospace Engineering. Upon graduation, Bill
received his commission in the USAF through the AFROTC program. He earned
his Air Force pilot wings and over the next 30 years flew the F-4, F-111,
and C-12. Bill had overseas tours in Thailand, United Kingdom, Turkey, and
Indonesia. He retired back to Sheridan in 2000, and quickly joined Rotary.
Bill writes the weekly newsletter, helps administer the club’s web site,
serves on several committees, and is a member of the board. Bill is a Paul
Harris Fellow.
Bill’s wife
Kathy is a Chief Master Sergeant in the USAF Reserve, and is often on active
duty at Strategic Command at Offutt AFB in Omaha, Nebraska. Eldest daughter
Rachel is a 2006 graduate of George Washington University and is currently
employed by the Defense Intelligence Agency; second daughter Amanda will
graduate from the University of Washington in 2007 and will receive her USAF
commission through AFROTC, and youngest daughter Kimberly is a freshman at
the University of Kansas.
You may have met Bill as he flew his father John (DG 2005-2006) around to
some of his club visitations, or at the 2006 District Conference in
Sheridan, where he was an active member of that committee
Julie Phares is the Assistant Governor for Estes Park, Estes Valley Sunrise,
Loveland, Loveland Mountain View and Loveland Thompson Valley Rotary Clubs. Julie was born and raised in Columbus, Nebraska and graduated from Columbus
High in 1979. She moved to Estes Park, Colorado in 1983 and been a resident
ever since. She started out her professional career as a Real Estate Agent.
A couple of years later she partnered with a local agent and started her own
real estate agency, Prudential Team Realty. A couple of years later she had
the opportunity to become the National Sales Director for Michael Ricker
Pewter, and decided to hang up her real estate hat. After 5 years of
traveling she decided she wanted to stay closer to home, so she became an
insurance agent. She is currently the manager for LBN Insurance in Estes
Park.
Julie is married
to Charles Phares who grew up in Oklahoma. They have three children, Bridget
(25), Sean (16), & Marshall (7). In Charle’s and Julie’s spare time they
like to perform on stage. Charles has been blessed with an incredible voice,
and is a semi professional singer, while Julie likes to perform in the local
theater productions.
Julie has been a
member of The Estes Park Rotary Club since 1993. She has been involved in
various committees throughout the years. She was chairperson of the Estes
Park Duck Race, The Estes Park Wine Tasting, and founder of Estes Park
Sings. She served as club president in 2006-07. In 2003 she was honored as
"Rotarian of the Year" by her fellow club members, and then in 2006 she was
honored as "Rotarian of the Year" by the District. She currently serves on
the Interact committee for the District.
Julie is looking
forward to serving as an Assistant Governor, and meeting all the wonderful
people in the Rotary Family this next year.
John Roberts is
the Assistant Governor for Fort Collins, Fort Collins After Work, Fort
Collins Breakfast, Fort Collins Foothills and Windsor Rotary Clubs. A native of Fort
Collins , John earned his BA in International Affairs at the University of
Colorado . Following two years in Somalia with the Peace Corps and Law
School in Washington , D.C. , he entered the US Foreign Service (AID) as a
career officer. Taking a government sabbatical in 1977, John earned an MS in
Regional Planning at Cornell University . After serving in 17 countries
(Nicaragua, Viet Nam, Indonesia, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Malawi, Kenya, Egypt,
Dominican Republic, Botswana, Liberia, Madagascar, Ukraine, Tunisia, Malta,
and the Solomon Islands) retired from government service in 1998 and
returned to Fort Collins where he now teaches International Studies at
Colorado State University. He is also active in his Church and the American
Red Cross.
John’s married
children live in Denver (Centennial and Lakewood ) from where he can watch
his four grandchildren grow into young adults, and hopefully someday,
Rotarians.
John joined
Rotary in Botswana in 1985, and has served as an Club Officer and Board
Member in Gaborone Botswana , Monrovia Liberia , Antananarivo Madagascar ,
Honiara Solomon Islands , and the Rotary Club of Fort Collins, serving as
President in 2005-2006 during our Centennial Year. He has been active in
World Community Service, Four-Way Test Committee, Fellowship, Music, and
Awards. Over the past five years, John has hosted Rotary Youth Exchange
Students from Thailand , Turkey , Italy , and Belgium
Jim Ryan is the Assistant Governor of Jackson Hole, Jackson Hole Breakfast,
Jackson Hole Supper, Star Valley and Teton Valley Rotary Clubs. Jim is 46 years old and Sr. Vice President of Commercial Lending at The
Jackson State Bank & Trust. He is married to Lisa and they have two
children, Trevor (15) and Tara (12). Jim grew up in Northern California in
San Francisco’s East Bay in Orinda and went to college at California State
University, Chico. Jim graduated in 1984 after managing to cram 4 years of
college in to 5 ½.
Jim joined his
first Rotary club in 1987 in Livermore, California and was active for a year
before moving out of the area. Jim rejoined Rotary in 1994 as a member of
the San Ramon Valley club in San Ramon, California.
Jim and the
family moved to Jackson, Wyoming in 1997 and have been there ever since. Jim
has been a member of the Rotary of Jackson Hole Breakfast since he moved to
Wyoming in 1997 and has been Treasurer, Secretary, President and a board
member. This is Jim’s first year as an Assistant Governor and he looks
forward to serving under District Governor Nancy Pettus.
David Scriven is the Assistant Governor
for Casper, Casper 5 Trails, Douglas and Rawlins Rotary Clubs. Dave
grew up in Wyoming, went to college in Colorado and lived in Arizona and
Colorado before retuning to Wyoming in 1988. He attended the Colorado School
of Mines and has a degree in Mining Engineering. He owns and operates
Western States Mining Consultants P.C., a mining engineering firm located in
Casper, Wyoming.
Dave was the centennial president
of Casper 5 Trails Rotary Club and has been on the board of directors for
the past six or seven years. He joined Rotary in 1997. In addition to being
active in Rotary, Dave also is on the board of directors of the Society of
Mining and Exploration, past president of Mining Associates of Wyoming and
on the board of the Wyoming Workforce Development Council.
In his spare
time, Dave enjoys racquetball, skiing, cycling and any water sports. His
wife Janice, although not a Rotarian, is active in 5 Trails Rotary
activities. They have two sons and one grandson.
Jo Suftko is the Assistant Governor for Evanston, Kemmerer and Rock Springs
Rotary Clubs. Jo was born and raised in Michigan. She moved to Rock Springs, Wyoming from
Phoenix, Arizona to open a blood donor center for United Blood Services.
After retiring from United Blood Services, Jo started SST-Testing, Inc.,
which is a company which does blood draws and drug testing.
Jo is also an instructor at
Western Wyoming Community College teaching phlebotomy, and serves on the
Board of Directors for Rocky Mountain American Medical Technologists (AMT).
Jo is a past
president of the Rock Springs Rotary Club, a past preesident of the Rock
Springs Chamber of Commerce and Sweetwater County Business and Professional
Women.
Jo is married to
Bill and they have two sons, one granddaughter and one grandson.
Dennis Tippetts is the Assistant Governor
for Riverton, Lander and Thermopolis Rotary Clubs. Dennis
is a Wyoming native and graduate of Laramie High School and the University
of Colorado Boulder where he served as student body vice president. He
served as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Navy and has worked in several
management capacities with different companies. He is currently president of
Minex Resources Inc. a mineral exploration company, and is also a Wyoming
certified real estate appraiser.
For community service Dennis has
been chairman of the Riverton school board, chairman of the Riverton
Memorial Hospital board, president of IDEA Inc., mayor of Riverton, and was
elected to four terms in the Wyoming House of Representatives. He has also
served as chairman of the Wyoming Board of Equalization and is currently on
the board of directors for the Yellowstone Development Corp. and on the
hospital Bio-Ethics committee.
Dennis was the
charter president of the Riverton Rotary Club in 1978, and has also been a
menber of the Cheyenne Rotary Club. He has been a Rotary Club Director or
committee chairman for over 20 years, and previously served as an assistant
to a Rotary District Governor. He has been married to his wife Dianne for 44
years and they have three children and five grandchildren. The family has
hosted several Rotary Youth Exchange students in the past.
